Kedartal Trek

  • Trip Duration: 8D / 7N
  • Max altitude: 4,750 m / 15,600 ft
  • Grade: Difficult
  • Start/End point: Dehradun

If you are a true adventure-loving soul, the Kedartal Trek is definitely for you.

Usually, a high-altitude Himalayan trek offers excellent views from a summit, but very few trails lead to a pristine glacial alpine lake offering a flawless, mirror-like reflection of towering peaks. The emerald-green waters of Kedar Tal mirror the mighty Mt. Thalaysagar and Mt. Bhrigupanth, creating a scene so surreal it feels like stepping into a dream.

At an altitude of 15,600 ft, this trek is not for the faint-hearted. It demands strength, patience, and unwavering willpower to push through tricky terrain, boulder crossings, and the infamous “Spider Wall.” But in return, it offers panoramic views of snow-covered Himalayan giants: Thalaysagar, Manda Parvat, Bhrigupanth, Gangotri, Bhagirathi, Mount Meru, and Jogin.

The Mystical Shiva’s Lake

Kedar Tal, affectionately known as Shiva’s Lake, is a sacred destination fed by melting snow from the surrounding peaks. According to Hindu mythology, this snowmelt forms the Kedar Ganga, a primary tributary of the sacred River Ganga. It is believed that Lord Shiva meditated here, infusing the lake with a profound spiritual aura. Uncrowded and isolated, it is the ultimate offline trek in India to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature.
