Our journey begins from Dehradun at 7 am to Gangotri. The total distance covered today is 242 km which will take around 10 hours to reach. Hence it is advised to start early today. The entire drive to Gangotri is very beautiful and enjoyable. Gangotri is a very popular tourist spot famous for the 4 Dhaam Yatra as well hence it is very crowded. In the evening take a stroll to the holy Gangotri Temple and also visit the local market.

Since the Kedartal trek is a high-altitude trek and we will attain almost 6000 ft within 3 days, it is advised to acclimatize for one day here in Gangotri. There are lots of places to explore in Gangotri hence after breakfast you should visit the Pandav Gufa, Bhagirath Shila, Surya Kund, and Gauri Kund. Even after lunch, you can also visit the Gangotri Temple and also visit the local market.

On our 3rd day, we will finally start our trek from Gangotri (3415 m) and trek to Bhoj Kharak (4029 m). The total distance covered is 8 km which will take around 5-6 hours. After breakfast, we will leave Gangotri and will cross the Bhagirathi River by the Bhairav Ghati Bridge. After crossing the ashrams of the Sadhus there will be a steep climb and the gateway to the dense forests of Bhoj Kharak. This forest trail is full of Birch trees and purple colour Rhododendrons. It is from this location, you will finally start getting a glimpse of the Thalaysagar mountain. The final leg of the trail is the Spider Wall which is the most challenging part of this trek – a 60-degree rocky slab that needs to be crossed very cautiously as it is slippery. Finally, we will reach our Bhoj Kharak campsite. Overnight stay at Bhoj Kharak.

On the 4th day of our trek, we will trek from Bhoj Kharak (4029 m) to Kedar Kharak (4340 m). We will start our trek after breakfast and the distance travelled today is 4 km that will take 4 hours to reach our Kedar Kharak campsite. Initially, there is 1 km of steep ascent followed by 3 km of gradual ascents and descents. This 1 km steep ascent is through the dense Bhoj forests after that we will reach the meadows that are filled with a variety of vibrant colours in the autumn season. The snow-covered peak of Bhrigupanth in the backdrop of the meadows makes the landscape absolutely postcard-worthy. It is in this location that you might get a glimpse of Blue Sheep or Bharal, Himalayan Black Bear, Goral, and many rare species of birds as well. Today as you will gain altitude gradually, you will notice that the temperature will drop and even there will be a thin layer of snow on the water surface of the streams. We also need to cross the Kedar Ganga riverbed post which we will reach our Kedar Kharak campsite. From this campsite, you will get the most magnificent views of the snow-covered peaks of Bhrigupanth, Thalaysagar, and Jogin 3. Imagine how beautiful a sunset would be from these towering peaks at Kedar Kharak campsite. Overnight stay at Kedar Kharak.

On the 5th day of our trek, we will start our trek from Kedar Kharak (4340 m) to Kedartal 4750 m). Finally, today is the most important day of our trek when we will trek to the glacial Kedartal Lake which is a distance of 5 km that will take 5 hours to reach our campsite. There will be steep ascents with three ridges and a trail of dust and boulders. Once you cross the 3rd ridge, you will finally get magnificent views of the emerald lake with the turquoise colour of the water. It is in this water, that you will get stunning reflections of Thalaysagar and Bhrigupanth that will completely blow your mind. Apart from these two mountains, you will also get awesome views of Manda, Gangotri, Bhagirathi, and Meru. After witnessing amazing vistas of Kedartal we will return to Kedar Kharak.

Today is the last day of our trek and we will start walking to Gangotri from Kedar Kharak very early in the morning at 7 am after breakfast. The total distance travelled today is 15 km which will take around 7-8 hours as the trail is mostly downhill. We should reach Gangotri by the afternoon. From Gangotri, we will take a drive to Harshil which is 53 km in distance and will reach in 2-3 hours. We should reach Harshil by 6-7 pm. Overnight stay at Harshil.

And we have finally come to the last leg of this mystical journey to Kedartal Trek. Today is a slow-moving day and after having a relaxed breakfast, we will start our drive for Dehradun. Dehradun is 141 km away from Uttarkashi and will take around 6-7 hours to reach. We should reach Dehradun by 6 pm and hence you should make your return back home accordingly.
