Your journey with Altitude Adventure Holidays begins from Srinagar (1585 m). So on day 1 of the trip, you should reach Srinagar and check in to a hotel. If you are coming by train, then the nearest station is Jammu Tawi which is 248 km away from Srinagar. From there take a cab and reach Srinagar in 6 hours. If you are coming by flight then there is the Srinagar Airport which is connected to flights from all cities in India. if you reach Srinagar by afternoon, do not forget to watch the sunset from the Daal Lake and take a Shikara ride. Night stay at Srinagar in a comfortable hotel.

After breakfast, begin your journey towards Kargil, leaving Srinagar behind and gradually entering the spectacular mountain landscapes of the Kashmir–Ladakh region. Your first major stop is Sonamarg, surrounded by beautiful Himalayan scenery. From here, the road continues towards Zoji La Pass, one of the significant mountain crossings on this route. As the landscape changes, continue towards Drass. En route, visit the Drass War Memorial, an important landmark commemorating the sacrifices of Indian soldiers. Continue your drive towards Kargil, watching the landscapes gradually transform as you move deeper into the mountains. Arrive in Kargil by evening and check in to your hotel.

Entering The Magnificent Suru Valley (3000 m) After breakfast, leave Kargil and begin driving towards the spectacular Suru Valley. The journey takes you through Sankoo, Panikhar and Parkachik, with the landscapes becoming increasingly dramatic as you move deeper into the valley. One of the major highlights of today's journey is the magnificent Nun-Kun Massif, whose imposing mountain landscape provides an unforgettable backdrop to the road. The route also takes you along the beautiful Suru River.
En route, visit the giant Maitreya Buddha at Kartse Khar (3100m). Continue through the valley before reaching your accommodation in Suru Valley.

After breakfast, continue deeper into the Suru Valley towards the remote settlement of Rangdum (3,657 m). Although today's driving distance is shorter, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic. The road takes you through a wilderness of glaciers, river valleys and towering mountain landscapes. This is one of those days where the journey itself becomes the highlight. On reaching Rangdum, visit the beautiful Rangdum Monastery, dramatically overlooking the valley.

On the 5th day we will drive from Rangdum (3657 m) to Padum (3669 m) via Pensi La Pass. The distance travelled today is 104 km and there will be multiple stops at the villages that will fall on our journey. We will also make another visit to the twin lakes Stat Tso and Lang Tso and the Drang Drung Glacier and witness its beauty in the morning also. We will have our lunch in one of the villages we will halt for. Just about 9 km before Padum is the Guru Padmasambhava Statue at Sani that is built right in the middle of the beautiful Sani Lake then continuing to Sani Monastery. The lake is considered to be very holy and holds an important place for Buddhists. We will also visit the Sani Monastery nearby which is considered to be the oldest monastery in the Zanskar region. Another important spot is the Kanishka Stupa. Hence, Sani village is a must-stop before we reach Padum. Padum is the main town of the Zanskar region and is also an administrative headquarters. We will reach by late evening and night stay at Padum.

Discover The Cultural Heart Of Zanskar
Today, take a break from the long-distance road journey and spend the day exploring the cultural and scenic highlights around Padum. Visit Karsha Monastery, followed by Stongdey Monastery. The journey also includes a visit to Zangla Palace. Beyond the individual attractions, today offers an opportunity to appreciate the unique character of Zanskar — its monasteries, landscapes and centuries-old Buddhist traditions existing amidst an incredibly rugged Himalayan environment. Return to Padum after completing the day's sightseeing.

Trek To The Legendary Phugtal Monastery
Start early after breakfast and drive towards Purne, travelling through the spectacular Lungnak Valley. From Purne, leave the vehicle behind and begin the trek towards the legendary Phugtal Monastery. Dramatically built into the mountainside above the river, Phugtal Monastery is one of the most extraordinary sights on the Zanskar journey.
Reaching it requires a short trek, making the experience very different from a conventional sightseeing stop. Spend time exploring the monastery before retracing your steps back towards Purne. After completing the trek, continue the road journey towards Gombo Rangjon.

The Great Cross-Himalayan Drive, Today marks the final and one of the longest driving stages of your Zanskar expedition. After breakfast, begin the adventurous journey towards Manali via Shinku La Pass. Crossing Shinku La marks another dramatic transition in the landscape as the journey moves from the remote Zanskar region towards Himachal Pradesh. Continue towards Darcha, followed by Jispa, Keylong, Tandi and Sissu. Tandi (2,567 m) a peaceful, remote mountain settlement situated above the Jibhi valley, witness sacred confluence of the Chandra and Bhaga rivers in Tandi and as the last fuel station on the Manali-Leh highway. Continue towards Manali and cross the Atal Tunnel before finally reaching Manali by evening. After several days of remote Himalayan roads, ancient monasteries, high-altitude passes and dramatic valleys, arriving in Manali marks the final chapter of this incredible cross-Himalayan roadtrip.
